Japanese hand mirror in its black lacquer case. The case top is black with the big, golden Government Seal of Japan, called go-shichi no kiri in Japanese, used on official documents and formerly used as the private symbol of the Japanese Imperial family. The back of the cover is black with fine gold sprinkles in maki-e style. The mirror itself is made of silver, the handle wrapped with bamboo strings for a softer grip. The backside of the mirror is decorated with a landscape scenery of a hill and a tree with ocean waves in the back. On the hill we see a pine tree and a crane with open beak, glancing at the sky. In the sky a crane is flying looking down. A turtle is climbing on a rocky surface next to the standing crane. Japanese characters are written on the right side of the back.
